Disappointmentville: The Ex Games by Jennifer Echols

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 486 KB | Release Date: September 2009 | Publisher: Simon Pulse

"The Ex Games" by Jennifer Echols

My Book Summary : Four years ago, Hayden and her family moved from Tennessee to Colorado. During that time, she was in seventh grade, just recovered from a broken leg, and was swept up in being Nick's girl -- who was the hottest & richest boy at her new school -- even though they've only been on a few dates. But while on a date at the local movie theatre she found out that the only reason Nick was dating her was because of a bet with his friends, and once she found out instead of crying she bitched him out in front of everyone at the theatre (including a lot of kids from their grade).

Now they’re exes and over the years they have gotten into a habit of flirting, Nick playing tricks on her, and arguing/fighting with each other. However, during the day before their high school’s winter break they both find themselves in the hallway talking to each other and sitting mighty close together. Something’s in the air but Hayden isn’t quite sure what. She has wanted to be with Nick again ever since they had their fight four years ago but things always got in the way. Plus, it doesn’t help that she’s not sure she can trust him. Also, even though they both happen to be single right now, ever since they broke up, Nick’s longest relationship lasts only about two to three dates, and Hayden doesn’t want to just end up like all of his other girls.

During winter break Hayden wins a snowboarding competition, afterwards she celebrates with her friends, their boyfriends, and Nick. While they are all talking about her competition Nick says that she only won because she was against girls, but if she went up against a boy of her age bracket she would loose. This, of course, starts an argument between the girls and the guys, and ending with Nick and Hayden going against each other that following Saturday (Valentine’s Day) in a comp to see who’s the better boarder.

While the pressure for who will win the comp builds and it seems that the whole town is taking a side, Hayden and Nick go back and forth on getting together again or just arguing with each other and staying sort-of friends. On top of that, Nick is having family issues and Hayden is trying to conquer her fear of heights ... will they be able to fight the odds and realize what is happening between them? Or will they not make up and keep playing the game they’ve been playing since they broke up in seventh grade?

My Book Review : 2 out of 5 stars, because I liked the concept but Nick and Hayden bickered way to much for me to enjoy it. It was like the first time someone said something wrong the other person would chop off the other's head by any means necessary. However, I did like the relationship between Hayden and her younger brother ... their back-and-forth was very entertaining. =0)

My Previous Review(s) for this Author : Forget You

Book Teaser(s) :
Hayden, she's a red-haired lass
Doing nose-grabs by the score
Gonna kick some Krieger ass
Maybe she needs one day more
Wants to snowboard off the jump
Not today, she's filled with sorrow
Scared she'll lose her steeze and biff
Gonna kick some ass tomorrow. ~ within the Chapter titled 'lemon grab'
"Dish, Hayden," exclaimed a gossip-seeking girl who skied directly into my path. "It would be soooo cute if you and Nick got together after he sealed your backpack inside that plaster of Paris volcano last year."
Liz giggled and elbowed me. "I'd forgotten all about that one!"
"But my friends say no way," the girl went on. "Nick hates you. Which is it?"
I shrugged. "I guess you'll have to ask Nick." And if she found out, I hoped she'd pass that info along to me. ~ within the Chapter titled 'jib'

Made the Grade: Forget You by Jennifer Echols

Format: Paperback | Pages: 292 | Release Date: July 2010 | Publisher: MTV Books

"Forget You" by Jennifer Echols

My Book Summary : Zoey's life is coming apart at the seams, and for a girl who tries to always portray herself as having it all together, that can change a person.

Basically her a couple of months ago her father informed her mother and her that his new girlfriend was going to have a baby. Then her mother fell into a depression and committed suicide, leaving Zoey to be the find her mother and make sure she got help. After dealing with that, her father threatening her not to tell anyone about what happened to her mother -- so no rumors would be spread, she goes to a party and hooks up with one of her guy friends (called Brandon). Even though she knows he usually is a player, she feels like their friendship before hooking up will make their relationship even better. A week goes by and her world is holding together for the most part. However, on Friday she decides to go to the Football game to support Brandon and her world takes another unexpected turn ....

While at the game she talks to her friends about an after party that Brandon said was just for the Football team, but they convince her that the Swim team should crash it. Then the next thing she knows is she is getting into a argument with Doug. Who just happens to be the bad boy at school, they haven't liked each other for a while now but he also just happens to be the only person who knows what happened to her mom and she hopes he'll keep it to himself. During that night however the argument is the last thing she remembers, as she finds out later that she happened to be in a car wreck loosing her memory.

Now while trying to piece her night back together, and trying to keep her secrets from everyone still, what she assumed she would have done seems to not have happened. Also, Brandon is no where to be seen but Doug just happens to be every where she is. Will she ever find out the truth and make sure no one finds out her biggest secret of all?

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars!! A cute novel. Highly recommended. I wish I had a Doug of my own!! Zoey and Doug's relationship is so sweet especially since she knows there is an attraction but still is never sure exactly why.

Book Teaser(s) :
"What are you driving after that?"
I explained the conundrum of having a loaded father who bought expensive cars for himself and his mistress but not his daughter and disallowed his daughter from buying a cheap car either.
"He's as crazy as my dad," Doug marveled. "If he's so concerned about your safety, why won't he just buy you a car?"
"He says he doesn't want me to be a spoiled brat."
A few seconds passed, cars whispering beside us in the other lane of the main beach road, before I realized what I'd given away. ~ within Chapter 8
